Krispy Kreme takes top spot

Krispy Kreme reported its first quarterly profit in three years and took the top spot in the Rosenberg Center Franchise 50 Index for the second quarter of 2008.

The Rosenberg Center Franchise 50 Index dropped 4.4by  percent in the same quarter of 2008, with sixty percent of the firms composing the index losing market value. 

The 50 franchisors in the Rosenberg Center Franchise 50 Index represent more than 98 percent of the market capitalization of all U.S. public companies engaged in business format franchising. The biggest gainer this quarter was Krispy Kreme, with a 64.7 percent jump in market value as it reported a quarterly profit for the first time in three years. Krispy Kreme earned a $4 million profit, compared to a $7.4 million loss in the same quarter in last year.
