Fornetti wins 2009 Franchise of the Year

Posted on: 01/02/2010

Hungarian Franchise Association last week named the food outlet chain Fornetti as its 2009 Franchise of the Year.

The ubiquitous firm supplies franchise holders with frozen, uncooked pastries such as mini sausage rolls and pogácsa savoury scones which are cooked at the point of sale and sold by weight. Fornetti’s wares have become a staple in the diet of Budapest commuters, who can grab a bag of the greasy savouries from outlets that have sprung up near practically every bus stop and inside many metro stations around the city.

Fornetti was set up by József Palasti in 1997. Since then the chain has expanded into Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Moldova, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia Hercegovina, Albania, Kosovo, and even Sweden and Kuwait. A total of ten manufacturing plants across the region churn out 5,800 tonnes of frozen savouries and pâtisseries a month, the firm says, with the products adjusted to fit local tastes.
