Wine sales drive franchise decision

Posted on: 15/01/2009 Tawna and Bryan Turner spent a year looking for a business before launching WineStyles, a boutique wine shop in Peoria’s Park West Center. The couple is self-financing the franchise. While Bryan continues to work full-time in his professional position, Tawna will oversee the new venture and care for the couple’s two girls. Tawna spent two decades in the insurance claims business and was looking for a new challenge when she decided to go into business. It was really just time for a change, she said. We were looking at different options, and wine sales is one of the fastest-growing niche businesses. We just decided to go for it. The 1,800-square-foot store features more than 150 wines, the majority costing between $10 and $25. The store had a soft opening just before Thanksgiving and will host a grand opening celebration Jan. 23 and 24. Tawna hopes to expand on the store’s Friday and Saturday night wine tastings and further develop the retail component of its Web site.
